The urine pregnancy test measures the presence of a specific hormone of pregnancy urine: human chronics gonadotropin or hCG (Human chorionic gonadotropin or human chorionic gonadotrophin). The amount of hCG in your body doubles every 2-3 days from implantation of the fertilized egg.
How and when to test?
The test can usually be done at any time of day. It need not be done with the first morning urine. However, avoid drinking too much liquid before the test. The tests today are very sensitive; you can start using them 9-10 days after fertilization (that is to say even before the first day of your missed period). If the result is negative, and if you suspect a pregnancy anyway, you must wait at least 2 days before re-testing because it may be that you did the first test too early.
