The causes of amenorrhea are many such arrival of menopause, the cessation of taking a contraceptive, the practice of a sport requiring intense efforts (e.g. marathon, gymnastics, etc ....), the medications, obesity, chronic disease, surgical removal of the uterus or ovaries, stress, a psychological shock or a rapid weight loss.

However one of the main causes of amenorrhea is pregnancy. Indeed, fertilization is the most common cause of amenorrhea. In the absence of rule, a sexually active woman should absolutely do a pregnancy test to be certain that this phenomenon is due to the growing fetus.
